(ATLANTA, GA) June 26, 2013 – As part of its seventh annual Building Community Network program, The Home Depot® Foundation has awarded its 2nd Annual Nonprofit Impact Award of $5,000 to Voices for Georgia’s Children for their submission of the case study titled, Serving and Growing a Network of Advocates for Georgia’s Children.
Through its Building Community Network program, sponsored in partnership with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, The Home Depot Foundation connects with some of Atlanta’s most effective nonprofit organizations, which are focused on building communities through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships that fall outside of the Foundation’s usual areas of giving.
In November 2011, The Home Depot Foundation introduced a new component to the program, the Nonprofit Impact Award. This award was established to engage the Building Community Network Alumni in a case study competition that recognizes best practices in the areas of leadership, programming, collaboration and/or innovation within Georgia’s nonprofit sector.
“We are excited to receive this award,” said Pat Willis, Executive Director of Voices for Georgia’s Children. “This positive recognition and support will assist us as we expand and enhance our core initiatives and serve the Atlanta community.”
Voices impact theme application looked at the development of the Georgia Children’s Advocacy Network (GA-CAN!). In 2004 Voices created GA-CAN!, inviting organizations active in serving or advocating for children to become members. By hosting pre-and-post Legislative Session gatherings, Voices provided education on the issues impacting children, brought organizations together to work outside of their “silos,” and discovered what these organizations needed as far as skills and knowledge to begin advocating for the cause.
Since then GA-CAN!’s popularity and success has grown tremendously, with nearly 200 advocates coming out for this year’s pre-legislative session breakfast.
“We feel it is especially important to support local Atlanta nonprofits by sharing with the larger community the exemplary stories of their incredible performance,” said Kelly Caffarelli, president of The Home Depot Foundation. “By creating a partnership with [insert org name] and highlighting their best practices within Atlanta’s nonprofit sector, we hope to provide a successful model for other nonprofits to replicate.”
